| Ok, so yesterday, Edna IMed me when I wasn't at the computer and she asked "hey, what are you doing this summer". When I came back to my keyboard, I realized geez, I don't know what you guys are doing at all, and you guys don't really know what I'm doing either. With the exception of Pat and Yuan, I haven't seen you guys since summer. So, here's a summary of what I'm doing.
Summer plans: After 9 excruciating interviews with finance and consulting companies, I got an offer from an investment bank Bear Stearns, and that is who I'll be working for this summer. I'm staying with my brother in NYC, but luckily, one of my close MIT friends is working at another investment bank and he's living at a NYU dorm, so I won't be a complete loser and be forced to hang out with my brother all weekend. The internship is 10 weeks, so I'll be in Hawaii from like Aug. 2 to Aug. 20. You guys should apply for stuff in New York! Please!
Oh, and even though I have a finance job, I'm still a ChemE major.
quick anecdote: one of the questions I got asked on my interview was: "if you have a n by n matrix, and you only have one indexing variable, how can you access each cell of the matrix". My friend, who's an actual finance major, was asked the following questions by Wachovia Securities because he listed "chemistry tutor" on his resume: draw lactose, and explain why some solutions are colored. errr...yeah, we both sucked on those questions...
School stuff and what else I do: Classes are pretty bleh and I assume you guys don't really care about that. Oh! If anybody took fluid mech, and you learned stuff like Reynolds number, Fanning friction factor, and Prandtl-Karman Law, you might remember something like Virk's Maximum Drag Reduction Curve. Eh, if you don't, that's okay, my fluid mech professor was Virk and I didn't even realize at the time that he was teaching stuff that was named after him. He's my research advisor for my lab project this semester.
MIT Luau is next weekend! Justin Young is performing. He's 6'2". I would have still preferred if Jack Johnson showed up though.
What else? I noticed Christine plays sudoku! I play websudoku too. So on my floor, there's a lot of obsession trends. It went from Yahoo Graffitti -> Mario Party -> Karaoke Revolution (super fun! you guys should definitely buy this game for your Xbox/PS2) -> websudoku -> StarCraft -> Smash Bros. -> StarCraft -> Spider Solitaire. anyways, I would soooo play sudoku any time!
Another funny anecdote: So, Dr. Iwashita and some other faculty members were in Boston recently because of a National Association of Independentt Schools convention where Dr. Iwashita was named Chairman of the association. Anyways, since they were in the area, they also held a Iolani reunion. Among others, I saw and talked to Kawika Uechi. Besides trash-talking about Matt and talking about MIT blah blah blah, we also discussed ways how zergs can kill protoss carriers. Ahhh...I'm such a nerd!
And of course, my favorite thing is still TV: I watch Lost, House, and American Idol religiously. If you guys need TV gossip, I'm here for you babe!
One last thing, my MIT friends have discovered that I say "k" or "ok" a lot. So, to fix this flaw, they have advised that i start saying "lol" or "omg" instead.
Ok, guys, i'll talk to you all later! k, bye!

| ok, ok, so I know I don't update ever, but I felt this was entry-worthy.
This is my MIT friend's interpretation of what I'm looking for in my ideal guy: "taller, older, and smarter". Also, I told her that I didn't want my husband to cook, or if he tried, he should screw up miserably because he's a guy. I would do the cooking, laundry, etc. (or hire someone to do it for me).
This is the picture that she drew for me:

So...if you guys know anyone like that, let me know, k?
hahahaha, I hope you guys are having a good school year so far! | | |
